Running Spots
Any of the places below are great locations to go for an Easy, aerobic conditioning run. I highly recommend you explore a few new places each semester.
Mission Bay ParkAddress: 1740 E Mission Bay Drive, San Diego, 92109.
There are plenty of places to park around Mission Bay. All of them connect to the 8-mile loop. The larger loop is 12-miles. To complete the 8-mile loop from the cross country course you go south past the entrance to Fiesta Island (which is 4-miles around), follow the bike path past Sea World, cross the first Ingraham Street bridge to Ski Beach, cross the second bridge and make a right turn, you are following Crown Point Rd but can run on the grass to your right, keep following the road to Pacific Beach Drive (it is past the marshes) and make a right turn, this bike path goes straight past the RV park and past Mission Bay High School, when you pass the high school you are about 5 miles on the loop, keep going straight and you will hit De Anza Cove and the golf course, from here hop onto the grass and follow the park back to your starting point. AllTrails website. Penasquitos Canyon - West TrailheadAddress: 4831 Sorrento Valley Blvd, CA 92121
This is one of my favorite trails. There is a parking lot just off the road and one portable bathroom. It isn't usually very clean so plan ahead. Follow the trail underneath the road and up the steep hill. On the other side you have several trails that go for miles! You can even find a small waterfall about 3-4 miles out on the trail. This trail gets muddy when it rains. Lake Miramar TrailAddress: Click for Google Map
This is a very popular place to run and bike on the weekends. It is approximately 5 miles around the lake and has both asphalt and dirt trail. There is a nice parking lot and bathroom area at the start. It is a very safe place to run and mostly flat. It is located north just off the 15 freeway near Scripps Ranch about 20 minutes from campus. Sweetwater Regional ParkAddress: 5102 Sweetwater Rd, Bonita, CA 91902
If you are familiar with Rohr Park then you will really enjoy running east and into Sweetwater Regional Park. This takes you up the hill and to the reservoir where there are even more trails! A great trail for a long run and exploring. |
Rohr ParkAddress: 4548 Sweetwater Rd, Bonita, CA 91902
Located in Bonita, this park has a fantastic 3-mile dirt loop that runs around the golf course. From the parking lot it is very easy to find. If you get lost or can't find it you can ask one of the many people who use it to walk/run. If you are feeling adventurous you can run east to where Sweetwater Rd meets Central Ave and cross the street to the Sweetwater Regional Park and miles of trails! If you choose this route you can follow the horse/run path about 3-4 miles to the reservoir. Rice Canyon TrailAddress: Click for Google Map
Located in Chula Vista east of the 805 and south of Rohr Park this 3.5 mile out and back trail is perfect for an easy run. You can even cross the street and add on at Discovery Park. The trail is relatively flat and well marked. It has its own parking lot off of Rancho del Rey Parkway. Silver StrandNorth - Coronado
Address: 2000 Mullinex Drive, Coronado, CA 92118 (AllTrails map) Park at the baseball fields. There are bathrooms. Run towards the water and find the walking path/bike path. Follow it under the Coronado Bridge where it will connect to Glorietta Blvd. Follow the bike path/road alongside the golf course for about 1.5 miles where you will see signs for the Silver Strand bike path. This path goes all the way south into Imperial Beach (nearly 10 miles!). Enjoy the ocean views and other runners and bikers. South - Imperial Beach
Address: 536 13th Street, Imperial Beach, CA 91932 A favorite place for the team to start from is at Trident Coffee in IB. The bike path is right there and there is plenty of parking. If you run north towards Coronado you will hit a small park with bathrooms at about 4 miles. Text a teammate and check it out with them! Lake Murray Regional ParkAddress: 5540 Lake Park Way, La Mesa, 91942
Lake Murray is an excellent running spot that is flat with a combination of trail and asphalt path. There will be water fountains and lots of foot traffic around as well. Start at the park where there is water and bathrooms. |
